About TPII Inserts:

The “Texas Prevention Impact Index” has been utilized for several years by school districts across the state of Texas. There have been occasions where districts have had a vested interest in accumulating data related to specific topic areas. When this occasion has arisen REdS has developed inserts that can be placed within the TPII to collect that data. The inserts look exactly like the TPII document but contain a specific set of questions associated with special data needs. It is possible to supplement the TPII survey using the inserts or request a new insert to fit your needs. The following are inserts which have previously been developed and are currently available.

Tobacco:

The insert related to tobacco use was requested to collect data related to tobacco education and use. The current insert was used to collect data related to research and evaluation of grants funded to reduce tobacco use in school aged populations. The insert has items related to data required for evaluation of these grants and has been used by tobacco coalitions for that purpose.

Underage Drinking:

The insert was designed to collect data related to underage drinking. Items contained in the insert are supplemental to the items contained in the TPII and provide a new set of items regarding alcohol use and prevalence in the youth population. The insert was designed to measure the impact of environmental strategies that focus on underage drinking. The items deal with constructs associated with accessibility, purchase, drinking practices, locations of use, parental attitudes, peer attitudes and community norms.

Violence:

The insert was designed to address a number of issues associated with violence. The insert examines the perception of safety as reported by the subject responding to the survey items. Like the other inserts the items contained are supplemental to the TPII and do not replicate any items surveyed on the instrument The violence insert inquires about school and community tolerance and norms regarding weapons and violence. The insert also examines the aggressive tendency of the person responding to establish an overall presence of aggression and acceptability of violence in the group surveyed.

Custom Inserts:

It may be possible to develop custom inserts for your specific data collection needs. REdS can produce a professional document that matches the TPII and can be included with the TPII for your use. We do not recommend the use of more than one insert at a time due to time constraints in completing the survey.

For help with including the inserts with your TPII or development of custom inserts please contact our offices.
